Za'atar

Also Known as: Zahtar, Zaatar or Zatar

Origin: Middle Eastern

Ingredients: Sumac, Thyme, Sesame Seeds, Paprika, Cumin, Oregano and Salt

Taste and Aroma: Nutty, warm, full flavored and distinctive

Uses: Mix with olive oil for a delicious spread, bread, dip, hummus, vegetables, meat, salad dressing and salad

Substitutes: Dukkah Spice, Thyme, Tahini Paste Kosher, Sesame Seeds, Arabic Spice Blend, Toasted Sesame Seeds, Black Sesame Seeds, Flax Seed or Sumac

Fun Fact: There is a Middle Eastern belief that Za'atar strengthens the mind, which is why Middle Eastern children are often encouraged to eat Za'atar before taking tests.
