Below are three photos to give you an idea of how much product you will receive in each size package. We filled up each size bag with marbles and placed them next to a quarter to provide a clear representation. There are two different photos, one for standard spices/seasonings and one for herbs. Since many herbs are so leafy the same weight will fill up a much larger bag. This is why some of the herb prices seem a lot higher than the spice prices, but you are actually receiving more product.

The third image is of our 1 cup Bottle with Sifter next to a popular national brand found in most grocery stores. You can see that our bottle holds close to 2.5 times more product than the national brand bottle. Plus, ours often costs less! Please be aware some other online retailers only offer 1/2 cup(4 fluid ounces) bottles. We choose to offer double the size 1 cup (8 fluid ounces) bottles to give you the biggest bang for your buck!

We hope you can see from these images that regardless of which size you order, you are getting a lot of product and a very good value compared to the supermarket.

Ammonium Bicarbonate
Also Known As: ABC, Ammonium Salt of Carbonic Acid, Bicarbonate Salt of Ammonium, Hartshorn, Hornsalt, Volatile Salt or Vol
Origin: Germany and Norway
Ingredients: Ammonium Bicarbonate
Taste and Aroma: Slightly acidic ammonia aroma which dissipates when cooked.
Uses:Leavening agent for flat breads and crackers, Chinese Steam Buns and almond cookies.
Substitutes: Baking Soda and Baking Powder.
Fun Fact: Although ammonia gives off a pungent odor, it dissipates when heated in low-moisture baked goods like flat breads and crackers. Do not use Ammonium Bicarbonate as a leavening agent in moist, bulky baked goods (like cakes) as it may produce an unpleasant taste, odor and green color.

This product isn't good

I apologize for this, but the product doesn't have a strong aroma. I think this is due to improper storage. Therefore, it failed to produce good baked goods.

perfect for my Lebkuchen

My Lebkuchen recipe uses this stuff; it's great to have a reliable source, and also really nice that it's already ground very fine, so I don't have to grind it myself. The packaging is really airtight, so I can keep it in the cupboard for years--I only need it once a year!

I wanted to try old fashioned "Springerle" (German Anise-flavored cookie) recipe this year. It calls for Ammonium Bicarbonate--not readily available. Thanks to "My Spice Sage" I ordered and received it in plenty of time to bake. And cookies have good texture!
